My research focuses on the history of the English language, with a special interest for the popularisation of medical knowledge in late-17th-century England and the development of the Canadian variety of English. My research interests include historical sociopragmatics, corpus linguistics, historical discourse analysis, and English for specific purposes.
In this project I am investigating the representation and codification of well-being in 19th-century Canadian magazines, paying special attention to the discourse of edutainment.
My relevant publications include:
Rovelli, G. (forthcoming). “‘The Bilingual Problem’. Nationalism and the language question in Canada (1791-1915)”. In S. Coffey and G. Iamartino (eds.), English Language and Nationalism throughout the Ages. Special issue of Language & History.
