My research focuses on specialized languages, with particular attention to Legal English and Business English. My research interests include corpus-assisted discourse analysis, corpus linguistics, and the study of meaning construction in institutional and professional texts.
In this project, I worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Milan (September 2024-August 2025) and was responsible for the design and compilation of a historical corpus (1560-1799) dedicated to the linguistic representation of well-being and related concepts. My work combines quantitative and qualitative approaches to explore semantic patterns and discursive shifts in historical texts. I was also in charge of creating and curating a bibliographic database of the critical literature on the theme of “well-being”.
My recent publications include:
– Guarino, Ornella. Legal and Cultural Dimensions in Arbitration Language. A Corpus-Based Study of Arbitral Awards. Routledge, 2025.
– Guarino, Ornella. “Metaphors in Arbitral Awards: A Corpus-Assisted Discourse Analysis across Legal Traditions.” Iperstoria 25 (2025): 461–485.
– Guarino, Ornella. “International Commercial Arbitration Discourse: A Corpus-based Study of Complex Prepositions in Arbitral Awards.” Lingue e Linguaggi 69 (2025): 309–326.
