My research focuses on English historical sociolinguistics, with particular attention to language standardisation and prescriptivism. I am especially interested in phonology, lexicography, and the cultural and ideological dimensions of language history, including the role of pronouncing dictionaries, accent prestige in media and education, and the sociolinguistic functions of newspapers in the history of English.
In this project I investigate the relationship between well-being and nineteenth-century board games, focusing on how they shaped contemporary values and on their reception in the British press.
